1974 - April 8, Guyana – First preliminary meeting for World Indigenous Conference in Georgetown

Planning efforts for the First International Conference of Indigenous People occur beyond Port Alberni as the first preliminary meeting is hosted in Guyana, on the South American coast.

The location of this meeting reflects the Conferences’ cross-border and cross-continental reach, which is made possible through cooperation and collaboration between Indigenous peoples worldwide.
