During the first two trips to China in 1974 and 1976, Ainu participants were encouraged to learn about the lives of minority groups in China. By the time of the later trips, however, (including the last one in 1983), the goal had changed. These trips were more about giving Ainu people international experience, rather than learning directly from China or its minority communities.
