Gerry Ambers (Larkin), 20 years old, and four other founding members of NARP commence their organizing efforts by picketing a meeting of the National Association of Principles and Administrators at the Blue Boy Motor Hotel in Vancouver. NARP faces many negative, racist comments from onlookers as they affirm the role residential schools play in an ongoing attempt at cultural genocide against Indigenous peoples. NARP’s first protest creates momentum towards grander aspirations regarding activism and challenging local and global colonial power.
