In 1983, Atuy (also known as Toyooka Masanori) and 10 other Ainu spoke at the United Nations in New York. They gave a 40-minute talk about the Ainu people’s situation. Masanori had started learning about other cultures at a young age, having visited more than 12 countries by the time he was 17 years old.
