1978 - July, Japan: First Ainu Delegation to Alaska and Canada

A group of 12 Ainu delegates visited Alaska’s North Slope region after being invited by Barrow Mayor Eben Hopson who was one of the most important Inuit leaders from the region, having founded the Inuit Circumpolar Conference to bring together communities from the USA, Canada, Greenland and Russia.  Soon after, another Ainu group visited First Nations communities on the west coast of Canada.
